My brother tipped me off about this story which caused me to seek out the text of Bishop Janky’s homily from April 15, 2012. I will be interested to see how this develops. As I understand it, the ADL has demanded an apology and/or has complained to the IRS that Bishop Janky’s comments cross the line toward the end, I suppose, of requiring the Catholic Church or at least the Diocese of Peoria to give up their tax-exempt status under Internal Revenue Code Section 501 (c)(3).

I’ve read the text. I’m no expert on the subject but I predict that if what’s at issue is what’s in the text, it falls short of directing the listener to vote or not vote for a particular candidate. You be the judge. Read the rest of this entry »
